Mivel lassan úgy tűnik, hogy hozzánk is beköszönt a tavasz (jaj, csak el ne szóljam!:), ennek örömére gondoltam megosztok pár angol kifejezést, ami a tavasszal kapcsolatos, illetve amiben a "spring" szó szerepel.
Ha bárkinek eszébe jut más, örömmel olvassuk a megjegyzésel között!
"No spring chicken"
Feeling a little "long in the tooth"? Then you're "no spring chicken" - that is, you're not young.
Mi is mondunk hasonlót magyarul, ha valaki már nem fiatal, azaz nem tavaszi csirke.
"Spring in your step"*
If your walk has some energy or happy bounce, you're said to have a "spring in your step".
Ha valaki nagyon energikusan, boldogan lépked, azt mondják, hogy tavasz/rugó van a lépteiben.
"Spring to mind"*
If an idea has occurred to you, it has sprung to mind.
Ezt arra mondják, ha valakinek épp csak eszébe ötlött/ugrott valami.
(Azt azért gyakrabban használjuk, hogy "come to mind".)
(* Igaz, ezekben a kifejezésekben a "spring" elsősorban nem tavaszt jelent, hanem rugót.)
** Anyák Napja alkalmából, ami otthon múlt hét vasárnap volt, itt pedig holnap lesz, íme három szólás a "mother" szóval. (A magyarázatokat ezentúl elsősorban angolul fogom írni, időnként megtoldva egy kis magyarral. :)
"Mother hen"
It's not difficult to guess what this saying is all about. :) A "mother hen" is someone, who fusses over others in an overly overprotective way.
"Necessity is the mother of invention"
This means that if you want to do something very much you will think of a way to do it.
"Hit the mother lode"
This saying means that you can find abundance in most anything. For example, you may have "hit the mother lode", while garage sale/market/fair shopping and finding everything you need. :)
